Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
