Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for details.

An important political figure said the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
